So the stencils for the (first) test boards arrived - yay! The stencils were from OSH Stencils and of the polyimide film type. I had no need to invest in stainless steel versions, and if the polyimide film works for test purposes then all the better! Solder was ChipQuick SMD291AX50T3 Sn63/Pb37 No-Clean T3 solder [...]
A bit of boredom has set in... The oven is ready to go, for testing with actual boards and these - with requisite solder paste and components - are also good to go. But the stencils ordered have not yet arrived! What is one to do? Final build steps So far I hadn't fitted [...]
With the oven now ready to run, it's possible to do some test runs. Yay! Taking the cautious approach - mainly because the stencils haven't yet arrived - this is a first stage of the testing, i.e., simply a number of repeated reflow runs where the temperature is monitored per the thermocouple data from the [...]
Between now and "then" things have come along. The build of the oven is now basically complete, or at least the wiring is now all good, and the oven is operational! No boards have been soldered just yet - now waiting on a couple stencils to arrive, but close indeed... For the record here are [...]
The oven was delivered today, thanks to Amazon France. So which one did I get? After much searching (and consideration) I decided on the Moulinex OX444810, being a model of the 'optimo 19L' series. This is the 19 L, 1380 W, convection version. Based on internet research something smaller would have been preferable, but [...]
Barely had I finished the last post about the plan for a reflow oven and the ControLeo 2 controller arrived! (The US and French postal services must have really been on the ball this past week...) The kit comes with the following (as advertised): ControLeo2 with Reflow Wizard software pre-installed ABS enclosure with UL94-5VA [...]
For too long I've been soldering surface mount boards by hand - it's not particularly difficult but is time consuming. The 0402 parts can also be interesting, especially when one bumps the PCB and then one is playing a game of "hide and seek" for a resistor on the floor... The remedy to the [...]
The parts arrived and so all good for a simple build - right? Ah... Not quite... Did someone say "Houston we have a problem?" That Murphy strikes at any opportunity! All parts were correct for the layout except for the inductor. When originally laying out the board I simply used a part with corresponding [...]
